Lámh was developed in order to have a standardised, Irish-based manual sign system for those with intellectual disabilities and communication needs.With Lámh, speech is always used with signs and only key words in a sentence are signed. Lámh has 500 signs.

The Basic Signing Rules of Lámh

  1. Always SPEAK and SIGN.


   2. Use your dominant hand.

   3.Keep your hands free.


   4. Do not cover your mouth.


  5. Face the person you are signing to.
